Partnerships
Global
Village has cultivated relationships with several
excellent organizations:
Peace
Diaries – Peace Diaries provides a forum
where students of every background (race, gender,
creed and religion) can learn about each other
and address issues on topics of human rights,
community, family, culture, democracy, conflict
and peace. Global Village students have the opportunity
to participate in activities such as their recently-published
“Recipes for Life” book, which includes
a contribution from a Global Village student living
in Haiti.
Winnemem
Wintu Tribe – Several Global Village students
are members of The Winnemem Wintu Tribe. Living
at the traditional village site of Kerekmet in
Redding, California, our Wintu students combine
regular academic coursework with cultural education.
They have the opportunity to participate in ceremonies,
tribal research, making dance regalia, learning
songs, Wintu language, etc.
School
Down Under (SDU) - Global Village has partnered
with SDU, an international semester abroad program
located in New Zealand. SDU provides a strong
academic curriculum alongside an outdoor adventure
program. Global Village reviews work and grants
academic credit for SDU students. Some GVS students
have had the opportunity to participate in SDU’s
program, and have had incredible life-changing
experiences.
NCACS
- The National Coalition of Alternative Community
Schools; a grassroots movement of learners and
learning communities dedicated to participant
control, liberation from all forms of oppression,
and the pursuit of freedom. Since 1978 the Coalition
has supported the work of students, parents, teachers
and others in the field of alternative education,
while informing the general public about its benefits
and successes. Global Village School is a member
of NCACS.
NALSAS
- The National Association for the Legal Support
of Alternative Community Schools is the accreditation
body of NCACS. Global Village School is accredited
by NALSAS.
IDEC
- The International Democratic Education conferences
are held once a year. IDEC brings people from
diverse areas of education together, including
representatives from democratic schools, public
and private alternatives, international schools,
charter schools, and homeschooling programs. Global
Village School’s director attended the 2003
conference in New York and gave a presentation
on peace education. In 2004 she presented "Learning
Styles as a Pathway to Peace" at the conference
in Bhubaneshwar, India.
Reflective
Educational Perspectives (REP) - Global Village
is pleased to offer the Self
Portrait learning styles profile developed
by REP. We also offer customized
curriculum consultations with the profile’s
authors and GVS teachers Victoria Hodson and Mariaemma
Pelullo-Willis.
Community
Partners - Global Village’s fiscal sponsor,
Community Partners provides support to social
entrepreneurs with ideas for significant responses
to community challenges. Currently over 150 projects
are under CP’s umbrella.
Mandate
the Future’s (MtF) Peace Education Forum
- Global Village has provided several scholarships
to young adults who found us through MtF. These
activists – who are involved in activities
such as election monitoring in Nigeria and peace
work in Rwanda -- are taking our online Peacemakers
course.
